June 1, 2024

Lab director Tim Gruenewald's chapter about designing a virtual field trip course is published in a new volume called Past and Future Presence: Approaches for Implementing XR Technology in the Humanities, edited by Lissa Crofton-Sleigh (Classics and Digital Humanities at Santa Clara University and Brian Beams (Virtual Human Interaction Lab at Stanford). In the chapter, Gruenewald presents a case study of a virtual field trip taught twice at the University of Hong Kong during COVID-19, exploring challenges, opportunities and best practices of using VR to supplement virtual field trips in the humanities. The volume also features contributions from Laura Surtees and Molly Kuchler, Elizabeth Wolfram Thill, Matthew Brennan, Ryan Knapp, David Lindsay and Ian R. Weaver, Elham Hajesmaeili, and Fabiola P.
